Uno, Dos, Tres, Quatro, CINCO!!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

While Frankie is busy celebrating in L.A. with the Mexicans, I've selected a few items from various Esty shops that will sure get you in a festive mood.

Let's start with a few printed pillows from Intheseam's Mexican Bingo Loteria Series. By now you should be aware of my appreciation of Mexican folk art.

La Sirena y el Diablito

La Calavera y el Cozaron

We're continuing on the home furnishing subject with this Lime Mojito pillow cover from Habitation.

Throwing in a few accessories like this beaded Sugar Skull brooch from Emerald Window. Isn't it cute?

And this set of His and Hers Mexican coin pendants designed by Adornments NYC.

You can wear them over your Frida Kahlo t-shirt from A Little Star Rock. By the way, if you haven't seen yet the movie with Salma Hayek about the life of this brave and talented woman, it's a must see.

Now that you're ready to party, have a shot of Patron for me (I don't drink tequila) and slam that donkey-shaped Pinata from Cheap Thrillz.

Fiesta! Fiesta!

Costume Institute Gala : Red carpet recap!

Last night in New York, the Met hosted the most exciting night of the year fashion-wise... the Costume Institute Gala.

There are about 1,000,000 pictures of those in attendance online, so here are my picks for the most interesting outfits. Remember that this is the night where the entertainment industry A-List is allowed to wear the most original, fashion-forward and cutting-edge outfits. The event was also a tribute to the late great Alexander McQueen, who took his own life last year. Hence, several of the stars in attendance payed hommage to the British designer by wearing his creations.

Let's start with the Devil herself.
Anna Wintour wore Chanel instead of Prada for the occasion. LOVE the dress. One of my top picks for this event.

Michelle Williams in Miu Miu.
My favourite outfit of the night.
I WANT THIS DRESS.
Take it off Michelle, it was made for me. Because I love Miu Miu and I love birds. Hell, I even got birds from an old Miu Miu print tattooed on my right wrist. Do I need to justify further why this dress should BE MINE?

Christina Ricci in Zac Posen.
Simply breathtaking! One of the best of the night.

Daphne Guiness in Alexander McQueen.
One of the bolder choices this year, it's a great tribute to the late designer.

Hamish Bowles in Alexander McQueen.
Because men can be crazy too.

Alexa Chung in Christopher Kane.
A little understated, it's something I would actually wear at a cocktail party.

Ashley Olsen in Vintage Dior.
The child start turned fashion mogul is channeling her inner Snow White with those poufy sleeves. I think that she manages to pull it of!

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel.
I like that she's trying a different look from the sequined-country gowns we're accustomed to see her in. The dramatic make-up really suits her as well.

Madonna in Stella McCartney.
Age appropriate.
Finally.
It's lovely.

Live Tyler in Givenchy.
Because I'm beyond obsessed with Riccardo Tisci and yellow is my favourite colour.

BFFs Blake and Karl.
Because any reason to post a picture of the Kaiser is a good reason.

Ginnifer Goodwin in a custom Topshop gown.
Nice mix of green and turquoise.

Diane Kruger in Jason Wu.
Always the epitome of elegance.

Mary Kate Olsen in Givenchy.
Because I looooove her make up. Frankie, what do you think of it?

Jennifer Lopez in Gucci.
The colour is perfect and I really like her flower shrug.

And I couldn't help but end this post with Andre Leon Talley in his signature cape. It's Balenciaga.
He never fails at cracking me up.

Psychedelic dreams

As some of you know, one of my favorite hobbies is to go to shows.
If there's live music, count me in. (ok, I don't like heavy metal too much though...)

I'm totally looking forward to Spring and Summer in Montreal, since so many shows from bands that I like have been announced. I'm planning to post here about the shows that I attend. I've already started with my Black Lips review, now is the time to talk about the Toro y Moi show that I checked out a few days ago at Sala Rossa.

Chazwick Bundick was in town to support his sophomore relase, "Underneath the Pine" - which I only had time to listen to briefly so far.

I must say that the show was rather short, with minimal interaction with the crowd. I guess Mr. Bundick and his band consider themselves to be musicians rather than showmen. Overall, I just believe that this type of music is not the most suitable for the live format, I'd rather listen to it at home. I don't regret going to the show, I had a good time for a mere 14$... but let's just say that I would not classify this in my most memorable concert moments.

Here's the video for "Talamak" from Toro y Moi's debut "Causers of This". I really like that record's title track as well, but there's not video for it unfortunately.

(sugar) Overdose

While one half of Popcorn Unicorn was getting her groove on at Coachella this weekend (sooo jealous), I, the other half, travelled to an equally glamorous (I wish)destination set in a pastoral setting: the Sugar Shack.

For our international readers, here's an instructional video on what this Québec tradition is all about. It's actually not too far from reality, taking aside the pet wolf and the crazy Santa-lookalike lumberjack. In a nutshell, we, Québécois, pretty much drive down to the muddy forest once a year to feast on a gargantuan meal that includes a mix of the fattiest and sweetest dishes you can imagine.

Here's what my trip to the Sugar Shack involved.

Befriending 4-legged creatures.
Alive and deceased.

Toasting with Kool-Aid (delicious but incredibly ghetto).

Pigging out. Pea soup is my all-time favorite.

And since we, at Popcorn Unicorn, always travel in style, I've put together the perfect Sugar Shack look.

- Plaid shirts are a must.
- I've also included 2 pairs of boots on purpose. One set of Loeffler Randall rubber boots to walk in the mud and to ride on the carriage. One set of Opening Ceremony suede wedge booties to line dance.
- Finally, I've thrown in a compass on a chain to avoid getting lost after having wandered in the woods to drink maple water right from the bucket.

Hair Do or Don't ?

I know that the trend is not new but I am tempted to jump on the Ombré hair bandwagon.

Take at look at Drew, Alexa, Heidi, Whitney and LC...
I dare you to tell me that it's not the perfect hairstyle for the summer!

What do you think?
Should I take the plunge?

To be soon continued since my appointement with my colorist is tomorrow!

Coachella Oasis Party Goodiesss.... or Vaclaz Klaus dream party

I had the chance to attend this year again the Coachella Oasis Beach Party, paradise of the free goodies.

Such a shame that the Czech president wasn't invited but still some celebrities were present (Paris, Bradley Coopers...) The crowd wasn't as good looking as last year ( my guy friends told me ) but there were lots of fun stuff going on. Dancing on the grass under a cloudless star sky is always exciting.

We all enjoyed  the open bar all three days which was serving Red Bull ( and sugar free ;) ), as well as the new Hint water, sliders by STK, cotton candy, Larabar, Cabo Chips and some other popsicles to avoid sun stroke... and the most important of all, my favorite NO HO shots ( no hang over) which works wonderfully.

Here are some pics of all the goodies I got without even running to find some...

The  3 days ended on a good note with Roger Sanchez energy spinning:

It's fair to say that I just can't wait for next year :)
